PVC Thermoplastic Powder Coatings

Ecopolifix PVC thermoplastic powder coatings have excellent chemical, physical and mechanical resistance. Our qualities of thermoplastic powder coatings are available in all colours and with special effects (e.g. metallics). They have an excellent resistance to outside aging e.g. on seacoasts. They help the surface to resist strong salinity, solar exposures with high temperature and humidity changes. Ecopolifix PVC thermoplastic powder coatings are considerable resistant to abrasion and show high anti-corrosive properties. These powders have a very good constant coating thickness and a perfect coverage on all parts of the object.

FLUID BED

PVC thermoplastic powders are fluidized by injection of low-pressure air into the lower part of the fluid bed container. The inject air is forced through a porous blanket to guarantee a homogeneous distribution and avoid dispersion. This air flow passes through the PVC thermoplastic powders, consisting of solid spheroidal grains and caused powder grains to be gently lifted and consequently to form the so-called fluid bed. During this dipping cycle PVC powder adhere to the hot object surfaces and coat them homogeneously by melting all around them. Pieces must be preheated!

After this cycle the objects are heated in oven for some seconds. Thus, they obtain a complete plasticization of the PVC thermoplastic film.

1.Degreasing:

Degrease and phosphate the metal parts.

2. Primer application:

Once degreased, the metal parts are cold immersed in a special primer (water-based) and dried for 10 min. at room temperature.

The primer anchors the coating to the various supports. It also acts as an anticorrosive agent. Thus, it inhibits the progress of further oxidation processes on metal supports where the coating is accidentally cracked or damaged.

3. Preheating:

Preheat the surface in the oven for 5 to 7 minutes at a temperature of 280-310°C. Please note: The residence time and temperature in the oven are in function of the thermal capacity of the piece to be coated in order to guarantee an object temperature between 260° and 300°C. We recommend the following ovens for the fluid bed application: tunnel, cone and induction.

4. Immersion in the Fluid Bed:

The immersion in the Fluid Bed, takes around 5 seconds. This time allows the deposit of a coating of:

  • About 250-300 microns for applications on wire and fencing,
  • About 400-500 microns for applications on garden furniture, pipes etc.

 

5. Post-heating:

After the immersion, the pieces pass into the post-heating furnace for the complete melting of the coating. This takes approximately 20-30 seconds at a temperature of about 230-250°C. The residence time and temperatures in the oven are in function of the thermal capacity of the piece to be coated.

Formulations are also available with special plasticizers. They allow to reduce considerably the number of fumes that are formed during the melting of the plastic on the pieces.
